biography
Nikki Garrett is fast becoming Australia's greatest rising talent in women's golf.
The number one ranked Australian Amateur in 2005, Garrett joined the Ladies European Tour (LET) in 2006 and made a huge impression in her first season as a professional. She posted four top tens and a further four top 20 places from the 18 tournaments in which she entered, earning her the Ryder Cup Wales Rookie of the Year Award. She finished 12th on the New Star Money List (the highest ranked player not to have won a tournament).
In just her second year on the tour, Garrett claimed her maiden pro victory at the 2007 Tenerife Ladies Open and a week later won the Spanish Ladies Open in Castellon. She was also the runner up at the SAS Masters in Norway and finished the season 16th on the New Star Money List. In 2008, Garrett was second at the Open de Espana Femenino and claimed four top 20 finishes. This year Garrett has already claimed a top 10 finish at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Open, and will continue to concentrate on the LET before attending US LPGA Tour Q School at the end of 2009.
Garrett grew up on Shelly beach NSW, where she started playing golf at her local Tuggerah Lakes golf course. By the age of 14 Nikki helped the NSW Junior State Team to win the Burtta Cheney Cup and finished a Quarter-Finalist at the Australian Junior Amateur Championship, before going on to win the Junior Championship the following year. Nikki then went on to take the Australian Ladies Amateur Golf Tour by storm over the next 6 years, becoming Australian Ladies Champion in 2005 before turning professional in 2006.
The future is looking bright for the 26 year old, as she returns to the LET in 2010. Nikki also has plans to play selected events on the Japanese Ladies Tour and she will attempt to qualify for the LPGA Tour in the United States at the end of 2010.
